First Week of the 2014-2015 season
The Power Hawks had our first two meetings of the year this week where we had a great time doing some fun team building activities! We played a bunch of games aimed at getting to know each other better and build a sense of community.
We have 42 amazing members this year and we are incredibly excited to see our team grow and achieve greatness!
You can see pictures from the team building nights on our Flickr account!

Field Trip to Centreville Manufacturing
The Power Hawks took our first voluntary field trip of the year to Centreville Manufacturing this past Wednesday. This is the start of a new program we hope to do this year taking tours of local businesses to help share new and innovative technologies and careers with our students.
We got to see some amazing equipment such as an industrial sized laser cutter, automated band saws and benders, and the AutoCone 500 which was featured on How It's Made!
All of the students and chaperones had a truly wonderful time and will remember this visit for a long time. Thank you so much to Centreville Manufacturing for being so kind as to give us a tour and send us home with an awesome laser cut Power Hawk logo and SRHS sign!
To see pictures of the visit just head to our Flickr.

Summer Plans
The Power Hawks have some great summer plans this year! We plan on going out in the community every chance we get to excite our community and get our name out by increasing the number of outreach events. We also plan on growing our community service program by initiating our theme "Under our Wing" where we'll be out more helping and inspiring children.
In addition to being out in the community, we're planning on having weekly voluntary training days for all members! We have a ton of projects we're planning on accomplishing this year including;
- Take apart Havik, our demo bot, paint/clean him up, then put him back together better than ever
- Design a friction plate for Merlin and future robots
- Design a prototype butterfly/octocanum drive train
- Design and build swarm drones
- Train more students in advanced metalworking techniques
- Clean and create a parts tracking system for our shop
We'll also be launching a Power Hawks health initiative with workout sessions and other initiatives to help keep our Power Hawks healthy! We'll be starting this summer with workout sessions before our weekly voluntary meetings this summer. Our Power hawks will be fit by the end of the summer!
We're so excited for the opportunities that we'll have this summer!
